Our Technology
For A Renewable Energy Future

The clean energy transition and the rise of renewables are powering society towards a greener future. To arrive at this future, we must invest in the best and most sustainable technologies to let us get there with the environment intact.

We need green energy storage solutions to capture renewable power and deliver it reliably and securely to consumers.

The role
of batteries

Renewable power by its nature is intermittent and scaling up renewable power generation means we have to find better, more reliable and more flexible ways to store our energy. Batteries are a key solution that can store renewable energy off the grid and ensure that we won’t waste our resources.

Redox flow technology

Redox flow batteries are designed to capture renewable energy safely and securely.

Flow batteries have great potential to advance the clean energy transition. A key advantage they have over lithium-ion technologies is that they can store electricity for much longer periods of time. The standard running time of lithium-ion-based batteries is 4 hours. Flow batteries have greater running times compared to lithium-ion batteries. Depending on the component materials, flow technology has the potential to achieve running times of up to 100 hours and beyond.

Redox flow technology stores liquid electrolytes in two external tanks on either side of the battery. The size of these tanks can be made larger or smaller depending on the customer's needs allowing for greater flexibility.

Environmental impact

Rivus batteries, unlike other leading technologies on the market, require no metals to be mined. Lithium-ion and Vanadium redox flow batteries have a high environmental price as the extraction process is bad for the environment.

A major downside to using metals such as lithium and vanadium is that they are mined, processed and produced in several countries increasing their transport-related carbon emissions. There need to be more environmentally friendly energy storage options that allow us to arrive at a sustainable future without further damage to the planet.

Lower footprint

Rivus cares not just about reaching this renewable energy future but how we get there. Our batteries use a molecule from stone coal which is a readily available organic material. Using coal means we can limit the negative environmental externalities associated with rare metal mining. An abundant resource coal is found in most countries and not as vulnerable to raw material security problems. Rivus doesn’t burn any coal in our production process, we simply extract our organic molecule from it.

Rivus’ ambition is to keep our supply chain on a national level, our batteries can be produced in most countries lowering our environmental footprint. This means we have a more secure supply chain and our batteries are less vulnerable to resource scarcity.

Rivus batteries
are built for
the environment

Rivus batteries are part of the solution to achieve a more flexible energy system with fewer emissions and a reliable supply of power.
Low environmental footprint compared to metal-based batteries
Not vulnerable to resource scarcity, instead of high-demand metals, we use an abundant natural resource
Safe, non-toxic, non-flammable and non-corrosive ingredients
Don’t cost the earth, their unique design scalability outprices standard lithium-ion
Flexibility, our special technology is equally suitable for both residential use and larger-scale utilities
Easy to make and can be produced locally in most countries (lower transport related emissions)
